This is an exciting in-house tax opportunity to join a major industrial conglomerate where they have only relatively recently brought tax in-house. Reporting to the Group Tax Manager, this role will provide first-rate commercial exposure to someone who wants to make their first step into industry. The post will also provide genuine autonomy in a business where tax is taking on an increasingly high profile. Responsibilities include:
Control all aspects of the UK group's corporation tax compliance (e.g. preparation of tax
computations and returns, quarterly tax payment reviews, group relief planning, claims
and elections, HMRC enquiries)
* Ongoing review of tax accounting systems controls and processes to ensure SAO
compliance across all heads of tax and instigating process and policy improvements
where necessary
* Drafting year end, half year and budgeted figures for current and deferred tax in
accordance with IFRS
* Preparation of current and deferred tax figures and disclosures for inclusion in statutory
accounts
* Review of the group's transfer pricing arrangements, thin capitalisation and debt cap
position
* Review of capital expenditure to maximise capital allowance claims
* Preparation of R&D claims
* Reviewing and updating PAYE dispensations and completion of P11D and PSA returns
* Ensuring the application of SOX controls
* Due diligence on proposed acquisitions and disposals
* Evaluating and implementing tax planning initiatives
* Dealing with ad-hoc direct and indirect tax and accounting queries
Given the bias towards tax accounting and tax reporting it is essential that applicants are qualified accountants who, ideally, have worked for a national accountancy firm. Candidates will also need to possess a strong set of academic results, consider themselves technically robust, and have a gregarious and outgoing personality with the ability to communicate at all levels of the business.
