Senior Associate, Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED), Ottawa
PwC's Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) Tax Practice in Ottawa consists of a dedicated group of professionals with backgrounds in the fields of science, technology, engineering, tax and finance. As a team, our highly skilled professionals offer their expertise to our clients in maximizing the tax benefit entitlement from their R&D projects under the SR&ED Tax Program. Rapid growth of our business in this sector requires a talented tax and financial SR&ED associate specialist to become a part of our Ottawa practice.
SR&ED Senior Associate (Tax & Financial) Profile

Specialist Knowledge
- Prepare / review corporate SR&ED claims and corporate tax returns;
- Research tax issues and support managers and partners in providing advice to clients on the tax implications of their Canadian and/or foreign operations and recommending strategies;
- You will use your tax and financial skills and experience to work in collaboration with our technical SR&ED specialists to identify and contribute to the preparation of SR&ED claims
- You will develop and use your tax expertise in SR&ED to assist clients with complex SR&ED tax legislation and interpretation, including assisting our clients with understanding SR&ED tax impacts.
- Participate in proposals for prospective clients and other business development initiatives; and
- You will be involved in supporting SR&ED claims through CRA audits.

Business & Project Management
- You will be required to effectively prioritize and manage multiple assignments and you have a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively under pressure
- You will proactively communicate progress on assignment to clients, partners and staff, identifying solutions to potential obstacles and managing client expectations.
- At PwC, SR&ED is a National practice; accordingly, occasional travel to other Canadian cities may be required.

Personal Development

- You will liaise with senior finance and technical staff and their teams to manage tax and financial aspects of SR&ED claims.
- You have an intellectual curiosity and a desire for continuous learning.
- You work well both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Business Development
- You will have an opportunity to network with existing and prospective clients, to gain broad exposure within the firm locally, and across Canada.
- You will participate in presentations and business development opportunities and contribute learnings to other team colleagues.
Education/Experience Requirement:

- Bachelors or Masters degree in Accounting or Business with a Chartered Accountancy (CA) or other accounting/professional designation.
- Completion of or enrolment in the CICA In-Depth Tax course (Part I and II) is an asset.
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years experience in industry or professional services environment and a strong technical tax background with 1 - 2 years of SR&ED experience.
- Strong client-service orientation with a focus on achieving high quality, timely and profitable results.
- You contribute positively to a team environment and have good communications skills;
- You are an individual who will ultimately have the ability to use his/her tax experience to provide pro-active advice and to become an essential advisor to our client's business operations; and
- Excellent written and oral communication skills combined with intellectual curiosity and creative problem-solving abilities.
