Tax Manager EMEA, Paypal, Luxembourg

PayPal Corporate Tax has an exciting opportunity for a Tax Manager in EMEA, responsible for providing support for all tax matters related to PayPal’s business operations in the region. In this position, you will support planning (foreign and domestic), implementation, and defense of initiatives and transactions, as well as supervise local compliance and income tax provision processes.

This role is hands on – in this position, you will be expected proactively to identify needs, risks, and opportunities and bring additional value to PayPal. You will become a trusted advisor to senior PayPal personnel and be responsible for maintaining close links to the business and developing strong client relationships with internal partners. You must be a self-starter with the ability to operate independently and manage multiple completing priorities and deadlines.

The position reports into the Director Tax, EMEA, and is based in Luxembourg with occasional travel throughout the region and to the US. This is a highly visible position with direct contact with PayPal management and business leaders.

Job Description

A typical day for the Tax Manager, EMEA will include:

Assisting Director Tax, EMEA in providing foreign and US Int’l tax support to PayPal’s EMEA business for all initiatives, transactions, product roll-outs and commercial arrangements
Supporting regional tax planning and strategy, including repatriation planning
Supporting regional tax controversy, including researching issues under exam, drafting responses to IDR requests and tax protest letters, and preparing models of potential outcomes of foreign and domestic controversy matters

What does Success Look Like?

Collaborating with other groups within the Tax Department to determine end-to-end tax impact of initiatives
Coordinating the preparation of income tax returns with local tax providers and review returns

About You

You have relevant years of experience.Corporate tax department experience with a large multinational company strongly preferred
You have good working knowledge of taxes in EMEA region, and with current OECD BEPS framework, especially on transfer pricing, ideally as it relates to the digital economy
You ideally, familiarity with US Int’l tax background (subpart F, transfer pricing, US withholding, 2017/18 Tax Reform)
You have a University degree or equivalent, ideally in Accounting, Law or Tax
You have awareness of group and local accounting needs
You are self-motivated with strong project management skills
You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate effectively with team members
You are critical thinker, with the ability to work across regions and functions in a fast-paced environment
You have excellent written, oral and presentation skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex tax issues to non-tax audiences
You have proficiency with MS Office, in particular, Power Point and Excel
